Ryan Smith was first elected Member of Parliament for Warrandyte District in 2006. After being re-elected to a third term in 2014 he was invited to join the Shadow Cabinet, with the portfolios of Roads & Infrastructure, and Industry. In September 2017 Ryan was appointed Shadow Special Minister of State, Shadow Minister for Industry and Cost of Living
Before entering Parliament, Ryan’s career spanned 18 years in the financial markets, working for a number of Australia’s leading institutions including the Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, BP Finance and Pacific Dunlop.
In 2006, Ryan was elected the Member for Warrandyte, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. A passionate representative for his local community, Ryan represents the suburbs of Park Orchards, Warrandyte, North Warrandyte, South Warrandyte, Warranwood, Donvale, East Doncaster, Wonga Park and parts of Ringwood North.
In 2008, Ryan was appointed the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Environment & Arts and in 2009 he was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet as the Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations and Manufacturing.
Between 2010 and 2014 he served in Government as the Minister for Environment & Climate Change, and Minister for Youth Affairs.
